Tiger brands recalls tons of canned products due to defect
Tiger Brands has issued a recall for several of their canned vegetable products from the KOO and Hugo’s brands.
According to a statement, some products produced between 1 May 2019 and 5 May 2021 may be in defective cans which were supplied by a packaging supplier.
Consumers are urged to check their pantries for goods on their shelves that can be returned to the supermarket where it was purchased for a full refund.
The recall includes favourite brands like Koo Baked Beans, Fresh Garden Peas, Spaghetti in tomato sauce, and mixed vegetables.
The affected products will have a barcode that is available on Koo’s website.
Tiger Brands says no health issues have been reported to date, but there is a “low probability of illness and injury” if the contaminated products are consumed.
It is an extremely small number of defective cans that may have a defective side seam weld that could cause a leak which can lead to “secondary microbial contamination”.
