Two KwaBhaca prison escapees re-arrested

Two of the twelve awaiting trial prisoners have been re-arrested by the Eastern Cape Police after they escaped in police custody in KwaBhaca, last week.

The inmates escaped through a hole in the wall during the early hours of Thursday.

Colonel Pricilla Naidu says the first suspect, who was detained on a theft charge, was arrested on Friday at his house in Nkungwini location near Mount Frere. The second escapee was also arrested on Friday evening,  in Bislan location.

Naidu says one of the escapees is wanted for rape, one for theft, and one for burglary, while nine others were in custody on charges of aggravated robbery.

She says an internal probe will be conducted on how the prisoners managed to escape and photographs will be circulated soon.

Task teams are still on the hunt for the remaining escapees.
