University Professor assassinated whilst jogging

Police are on the lookout for unknown gunmen who shot university professor at point-blank

The Limpopo police in Polokwane have launched a manhunt for the suspects who allegedly shot and killed a 51-year-old University Prof and Lecturer whilst jogging along the Munik road next to Sterpark suburb in Polokwane on Sunday morning.

The victim, identified as Professor Saber Tayob Mohammed, a Lecturer at the University of Limpopo and a chartered accountant, was jogging when a white VW Polo drove past him and then made a u-turn.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo”The said vehicle stopped next to him and a passenger disembarked and shot him several times at point-blank. The suspects quickly drove off from the scene.”

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has called on community members with information to come forward and assist in the investigations.

The motive for the incident is unknown at this stage.
