VIP Protection Unit caught on camera assaulting civilians have been arrested
The eight Presidential Protection Services (PPS) police officers, who were caught on video assaulting people on the N1 highway in Gauteng will appear at the Randburg Magistrate Court on Monday. The officers assigned to Deputy President’s Paul Mashatile’s Unit were told to hand themselves at the Sandton police station on Sunday.
The men are accused of assault, malicious damage to property, and pointing a firearm.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate’s (IPID) spokesperson, Robbie Raburabu, was at the station when the men arrived.
“Arrangements were made for the men to hand themselves over. They were processed and arrested,” Raburabu said.
All eight have been suspended.
