The Elliotdale Magistrate Court in the Eastern Cape was pack to capacity on Monday where a 36-year-old woman was amongst the six suspects who were arrested for conspiracy to murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and murder of her husband and mother in law.
The suspects were arrested following the brutal killing of a 48-year-old man and his mother (81) who were ambushed and fatally shot in their home in Mkatazo location, Kwanditya in Elliotdale last Saturday. Following an intensive investigation after this double murder, the police managed to arrest the six suspects. The report stated that the 36-year-old wife allegedly hired hitmen to kill her husband and her mother in law. During the investigation, police also recovered three unlicensed firearms (pistols) with three magazines and 34 live ammunition. The suspects briefly appeared in court and are remanded in custody until September 20 for formal bail application.
The Amathole Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu expressed his gratitude to the team who did a swift arrest in the matter, stating that there is no jungle to hide for criminals in this country. Xakavu also appreciated the sterling job done by police in confiscating unlicensed firearms.
