Woman arrested for kidnapping RAF recipient
A 44-year-old female law firm clerk is expected to appear before the Tsolo Magistrate’s Court today on charges of kidnapping a road accident fund recipient.
The law firm suspect was arrested by the Provincial Kidnapping Task Team of the Hawks in a disruptive operation jointly with Mthatha National Intervention Unit (NIU) and Mthatha Criminal Local Record Centre (LCRC).
Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said the victim allegedly received a pay-out from Road Accident Fund (RAF) as he lodged a claim against RAF through certain lawyers in Mthatha when he was kidnapped
“The suspect reportedly visited the victim’s home in Tsolo pretending to be owed cash by the victim, and the victim was not at his home during that time. Moreover, further reports indicated that even her partner also visited the victim’s homestead pretended to be an official from RAF. However, a few hours later the suspect’s boyfriend visited the victim’s home again driving a silver Volkswagen Polo and the victim was accosted to get into the vehicle with his identity documents and his bank cards, then the victim allegedly followed the instruction and the boyfriend drove away to an unknown place, “said Mhlakuvana.
The victim further revealed that he was released, then left at the garage in Beaufort West, Western Cape by his kidnappers before he was reportedly forced to make several transactions and cash transfers to the suspect’s bank account. The cash reportedly accumulated and the victim suffered loss of R290 000.
The suspect was positively linked to the kidnapping incident that occurred in Tsolo. Through comprehensive investigation by the investigating team of the Hawks, the suspect was also identified for the role she played in the said kidnapping.
