Woman kills two after domestic dispute

A 30-year-old woman is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates Court for the alleged murder of two people.

It is alleged that the woman set the building on fire after having a dispute with her partner.

The incident took place at one of the hijacked buildings in the central business district.

Five people were injured and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

City of Johannesburg spokesperson Nthatisi Modingoane says the police are handling the investigation.

“So, the matter now is a police matter that is being investigated. However, from our side, we are trying as much as possible because, in our books currently, with the Group Forensic Investigation Service, we are investigating about 188 hijacked buildings.”

Johannesburg City Manager Floyd Brink said the building, which houses displaced people, had been the subject of investigation for some time with the person claiming to be the owner embarking on a court battle to try to have the occupants evicted.
