No immediate fuel shortage risk, government assures

Pretoria — The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources says South Africa is not facing an immediate risk of fuel shortages, despite rising global oil prices linked to geopolitical tensions.

The department said it is in regular contact with oil companies to ensure stable supply and is monitoring developments in international markets.

South Africa continues to rely on key facilities including the NATREF refinery, the Astron Energy refinery, and the Sasol Secunda Coal-to-Liquids Plant.

However, the department warned that rising crude oil prices could push fuel prices higher in April 2026.
