NPA HEAD EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN ADV MOTHIBI’S LEADERSHIP

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head, Advocate Shamila Batohi, has expressed strong confidence in the leadership of Advocate Mothibi, who is set to take over the reins of the prosecutorial body next month.

Batohi, who is due to retire from her position, described Advocate Mothibi as a person of integrity with a solid track record and a deep commitment to upholding the rule of law. She said his experience within the criminal justice system positions him well to lead the NPA during a critical period.

“As the head of the Specialised Investigating Unit (SIU), and as a key stakeholder and partner in the law enforcement environment, he is no stranger to the work of the NPA and the broader criminal justice system. I have every confidence that Advocate Mothibi will take the NPA to greater heights,” Batohi said.

She acknowledged that the pursuit of justice remains an ongoing battle, noting that significant work still lies ahead. However, Batohi expressed confidence that under Advocate Mothibi’s leadership, NPA staff will remain united and committed to strengthening the institution’s role in promoting justice and safeguarding South Africa’s constitutional democracy.

To ensure continuity and stability, the NPA has compiled a comprehensive handover report aimed at facilitating a smooth transition. The report will be shared with the President, the Minister, the Chairperson of the Justice Portfolio Committee and Advocate Mothibi.

According to the NPA, the report outlines progress made on key strategic initiatives, while also identifying risks, opportunities and outstanding work linked to the ongoing rebuilding and reform of the institution. A series of briefing sessions has also been scheduled to prepare Advocate Mothibi ahead of his assumption of office on 1 February.
