Ntabankulu teacher kills one, injures two, turns the gun to himself
A teacher has been killed and two others injured in a shooting that occurred at Ntabankulu Primary School on Friday. Municipal spokesperson Lungisile Mzanywa said in an interview that a former teacher who was out on bail for sexual assault charges involving learners carried out the attack before turning the gun on himself.
Police have confirmed investigating the matter. According to police the former teacher allegedly jumped over the school gate and entered the staff room, where teachers were busy with their duties. He opened fire, killing one female teacher on the spot and critically injuring two other female teachers. He then shot himself and was also declared dead on the scene
The two injured teachers are in critical condition at Ntabankulu Health Centre. A full investigation into the circumstances of the attack is underway including the suspects’s breach of bail condition”, police said. Police have cordoned off the scene.
During the incident, learners ran out of the school in shock, while parents rushed around the area searching for their children. Police are still at the scene, and investigations are ongoing.
