Parliament’s ad hoc committee will issue a formal summons against forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan if he fails to confirm by midday today that he will return to complete his testimony on Thursday.
The warning follows O’Sullivan’s abrupt walkout from committee proceedings last week, which members described as a violation of parliamentary rules and the Powers and Privileges Act.
The ad hoc committee is currently probing allegations made last July by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, claims that have generated significant public and political debate.
The committee met on Monday, March 2, to deliberate on O’Sullivan’s conduct and determine the way forward. Andile Tetyana from Parliament’s Legal Services briefed members on the available legal processes.
“The Secretary will recall that on Thursday, February 26, 2026, after Mr O’Sullivan walked out of the committee proceedings without permission and in violation of the rules of the National Assembly and the Powers and Privileges Act, you asked committee members whether it was their wish for Mr O’Sullivan to return and complete his evidence,” Tetyana said.
Tetyana explained that should O’Sullivan fail to meet the midday deadline to confirm his attendance, the committee would proceed with issuing a formal summons compelling him to testify.
The move signals Parliament’s intention to enforce compliance as the high-profile inquiry continues. Further clarity is expected once the deadline has passed.
