South African motorists should brace for higher fuel costs next month, as petrol prices are expected to increase significantly in March 2026. According to the Central Energy Fund (CEF), the rise is driven by a combination of factors, including climbing international oil prices and a stronger Rand against the US Dollar.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) adjusts petrol prices monthly, with the new rates set to take effect on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Motorists are advised to plan their fuel purchases in advance to avoid paying more at the pump.
This adjustment comes amid ongoing volatility in global oil markets, which continues to influence local fuel costs. Experts say consumers may see the impact on household budgets and transportation costs as petrol prices rise.
