The case of four suspects accused of drug trafficking and money laundering has been postponed to 13 April. Emmanuel Onyia (44), Paul Ezeama (52), Patricia Pillay (31), and Zanele Namo (32) appeared in the Benoni Magistrates’ Court on Monday facing multiple charges.
The North West Hawks and Pretoria-based Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) arrested the accused across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal after a lengthy investigation into a multi-province syndicate.
Between 27 and 29 March, Onyia, allegedly the kingpin, and Ezeama were arrested in Springs and Benoni, Gauteng, where police seized cocaine, CAT, full moon tablets, phenacetin, pots, and an electronic scale valued at about R200,000. Pillay and Namo were later arrested in Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal for money laundering linked to Onyia.
The four were remanded in custody and will return to court on 13 April for bail. Major General Nombuso Khoza, Provincial Head of the Hawks in North West, commended the team for their diligent work in dismantling the syndicate.
