Police confiscate drugs worth R38 777.00 during raid in Maletswai

The South African Police Service (SAPS) makes a major drug bust in the town of Maletswai in its effort to fight drug related crimes.

According to the police, on 21 January 2026, members of the Public Order Policing (POP) Unit’s Information Component, working together with their operational team, conducted a targeted operation that led to the arrest of three suspects, aged between 36 and 39, on charges of dealing in and possession of illicit drugs.

Substantial quantities of drugs were discovered and confiscated during the raid.

The police found 13 small sachets of tik, 78 sachets of tik and 302 mandrax tablets.

The suspects were arrested and appeared before the Maletswai Magistrate’s Court ,

The court granted them a bail of R500 each.

They are expected to appear again before the same court on 19 March 2026 on charges of dealing in and possession of drugs.

Joe Gqabi District Commissioner, Major General Lindelwa Vellem, welcomed the arrests and praised the members for their dedication and continued efforts in ensuring that communities, including those in rural and small town areas, are protected from the scourge of drugs. “The SAPS remains committed to dismantling drug networks wherever they operate. Criminals should not assume that smaller towns are safe havens for illegal activities,” said Major General Vellem.
