Police recover stolen livestock, suspects arrested

Two suspects aged 31 and 36 years are expected to appear before the Lady Grey magistrate court on 05 February 2026.

The duo was arrested by the police after they were found with stolen livestock.

The pair was found next to the road with three live sheep and one slaughtered.

According to SAPS members received information that there is a vehicle transporting stolen stock on the R58 between Lady Grey and Barkly East.

“The driver of the vehicle off loaded the two suspects and four sheep next to the road and on noticing the SAPS, he drove away in the direction of Sterkspruit. The vehicle was later found abandoned next to the road .

“The operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence driven policing in addressing rural crime, particularly stock theft, which remains a serious concern for farming communities. Investigation into the matter is ongoing as the sheep were marked with tags and tattoos and the lawfull owners will be traced,” said Captain Ursula Roelofse.
