Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane retains most Exco members, adds two new faces

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has opted to retain most of his provincial EXco members from the previous administration, with only slight adjustments. He has introduced MEC Ntandokazi Capa to lead the Department of Health, following the departure of Nomakhosazana Meth to the National Parliament. Additionally, Sibulele Ngoga joins as the new MEC for Sports, Recreation, Art, and Culture.
Announcing his cabinet on Friday, Mabuyane emphasized continuity, stating, “If it’s not broken, there’s no need to fix it.” He praised his team from the 6th administration for their understanding of their mandates and their efforts in addressing poverty and infrastructure challenges in the Eastern Cape.
Mabuyane highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the monthly handover of new schools and emphasized the team’s role in advancing the province’s economy. He hailed the government’s dedication, citing a significant investment increase from R500 million to R200 billion over their term.
Addressing his team, Mabuyane stressed their role as servants rather than friends, urging responsiveness to the needs of the public and adherence to the ANC manifesto’s job creation objectives. He concluded by announcing departmental reconfigurations, including the establishment of Finance as a standalone department separate from Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs.
