EFF’s leader Julius Malema calls for Mabuyane to step down
EFF leader Julius Malema has called on Premier Oscar Mabuyane to resign failing which, the ANC must fire him. This is after Public Protector, Busisiswe Mkhwebane on Friday released a damning report implicating Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and MEC for public works, Babalo Madikizela of mal-administration of public funds. This is in relation to R1.1 million which was meant for a memorial service for the late Winnie Madikizela Mandela. Mkhwebane found that the money which was meant for the memorial service of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was irregularly deposited into Mthombeni Project LTD and misappropriated to improperly benefit Mabuyane and other provincial office leaders. Malema called for Mabuyane’s resignation during the party’s election campaign in Bloemhof in the North West.
“When you support Ramaphosa you got the license to be corrupt and Oscar Mabuyane is such an example. They are going to take that Public Protector report on review because that’s what the court has allowed. They are delaying unnecessarily, there is nothing that will change. We did not need a Public Protector, Cyril got that information. Cyril got that statement, he did nothing about it. Oscar must step down, whether he’s going to review this or not, he must step down. If not the ANC must fire him.”
Meanwhile, Mabuyane said his lawyers are attending the matter.
The investigation followed a complaint lodged on July 1, 2019 by a BCM resident Xolile Mashukuca
