Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane is contemplating taking legal action against suspended Secretary General of the African National Congress Ellias Magashule for claiming that money stolen from municipalities was deposited in his bank accounts. He will also take the matter up with the ANC. This is according to the statement released by Premier Mabuyane’s office yesterday. Magashule made these claims in an SABC interview on Friday.
A statement said, as stated before when the allegations were made in 2019, Mabuyane wishes again to state unequivocally that the claims are not true and that he never received money from Mr Bam, nor he has ever received money that was stolen from Municipalities.
“Further to this Mabuyane voluntarily submitted himself to the integrity committee of the ANC which cleared his name. Magashule brings a new twist where he reveals that he had numerous meetings with some of the individuals, including Bam, who were behind this campaign to damage Mabuayane’s reputation, a matter that is cause for concern and that will be taken up internally within the organisation”.
“The statement made by Magashule, that Bam was running around Gauteng because he will be killed is very dangerous and reckless, especially when not substantiated or reported to the relevant authorities.
The statement continued by saying it is also worrying that Magashule claims to have Mabuyane’s bank account details which makes us wonder how he got Mabuyane’s bank account number. Mabuyane regards the remarks made by Magashule as a malicious defamation of his character and is considering a legal action to deal with this matter”
