MATATIELE: Two D A candidates are expected to decline their nomination to represent the organisation in a council after the 1st November Local Government Elections . Simphiwe Gxumayo who is the chairperson of Uncedo Service Taxi Association and Sabelo Zweni the Secretary were nominated to be candidates of ward 20 and ward 18 under the Matatiele Local Municipality. The faces of the two candidates were already displayed on the poles in their respective wards but it is not clear what is going to happen thereafter as their names are already gazetted.
Unconfirmed reports said the two are forced to resign by the upper structures of Uncedo Taxi Service Association which has got a strong relationship with African National Congress. DA’s provincial Deputy Chairperson, Wonga Potwana has confirmed the reports. Without commenting further he just said, “Yes it’s true but let’s just let it go”. The two are expected to be unveiled in an ANC rally to be addressed by ANC provincial Secretary Lulama Ngcukayithobi at Harry Gwala Park in Matatiele today.
