Police have announced a reward of up to R50,000 for information that could lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of suspects involved in the robbery and rape of several schoolgirls in Bityi.
The incident occurred at Khonqeni locality in Xhongorha A/A, Bityi, on 30 October 2024 at about 00:35. According to police, eight schoolgirls aged between 20 and 25 were asleep in a rondavel when two unknown men forced their way inside.
The suspects allegedly robbed the victims of their cellphones before raping five of the women.
The case is being investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection, Sexual Offences and Femicide (FCS) Unit.
