Ramaphosa extends deadline for judicial commission on criminal justice corruption

Pretoria, South Africa – President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the deadline for the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System.

The commission, established after allegations by Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in July 2025, will now submit a second interim report by 29 May 2026 and a final report by 31 August 2026. The extension follows requests to hear remaining witnesses.

Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga chairs the commission, with Advocates Sesi Baloyi SC and Sandile Khumalo SC as commissioners. Its first interim report, submitted in December 2025, recommended urgent criminal investigations, prosecutorial action, and reviewed the employment status of certain individuals.

Hearings resumed in January 2026, with further findings and recommendations expected. The inquiry continues to probe allegations affecting the integrity of South Africa’s criminal justice system.
