Rassie van der Dussen retires after seven years with Proteas

Rassie van der Dussen has announced his immediate retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a seven-year career with the Proteas.

The 37-year-old was a key figure in South Africa’s white-ball teams, known for his consistency, composure, and leadership. Reflecting on his journey, Van der Dussen described representing the country as the greatest honour of his life.

He made his T20 International debut in 2018 against Zimbabwe, going on to play 57 matches and score 1,406 runs. He was also part of the squad at the 2021 T20 World Cup.

In One-Day Internationals, he stood out as one of the team’s most reliable batters, scoring 2,657 runs in 71 matches at an average above 50. His debut knock of 93 against Pakistan in 2019 set the tone for a stellar ODI career, placing him among the country’s top performers alongside AB de Villiers.
