SAWS forecasts showers and flood risk

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says typical autumn weather will dominate across the country this week, bringing scattered showers and thundershowers.

Rainfall is expected to be widespread in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, with isolated storms in parts of the Free State, Gauteng and the eastern Northern Cape.
Forecasters have further warned of a low to medium risk of localized flooding due to heavy downpours in these regions.

On Tuesday, similar conditions are expected to persist, with partly cloudy skies and cool to warm temperatures accompanied by isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers. Rainfall will again be widespread in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

The risk of severe thunderstorms remains low, but authorities have cautioned that heavy rainfall could still lead to localized flooding in parts of the Northern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

SAWS has urged residents in affected areas to remain alert, particularly in low-lying regions prone to flooding.
