SAWS Forecasts warmer winter, mixed rainfall across SA

The South African Weather Service says most parts of South Africa can expect warmer-than-normal conditions this autumn and winter, with varied rainfall patterns across regions.

The El Niño–Southern Oscillation is currently neutral but is expected to shift toward an El Niño phase, typically linked to hotter and drier weather.

Above-normal rainfall is forecast for eastern and south-eastern coastal areas, raising concerns about flooding and waterborne diseases, while the south-western regions may face below-normal rainfall and potential water shortages.

SAWS has urged communities to stay alert, practice water conservation, and take precautions against heat-related health risks.
