SIU uncovers corruption at Home Affairs, government pledges action

The South African government has welcomed a breakthrough by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) into corruption at the Department of Home Affairs. The investigation revealed fraudulent issuing of official documents to illegal immigrants, undermining the integrity of the immigration system and public trust in state institutions.

Acting Government Spokesperson Nomonde Mnukwa praised the SIU’s work, saying it demonstrates government’s commitment to rooting out corruption and enforcing accountability. “A capable, ethical, and developmental State depends on collective responsibility,” she added.

Government reaffirmed its zero-tolerance approach to corruption and urged citizens and public servants to report wrongdoing, reinforcing its pledge to build a professional and transparent public service.
