The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and the Department of Water and Sanitation have launched the Water Sector Anti-Corruption Forum (WSACF) to strengthen the fight against corruption in South Africa’s water sector.
The initiative follows 16 SIU investigations linked to the department, with nine completed and seven still ongoing.
Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina warned that corruption in the sector directly affects communities.
“When corruption infiltrates the water sector, it dries up taps, delays infrastructure and erodes public trust,” Majodina said, adding that every rand lost to corruption is money that should be used to improve water supply and protect the country’s resources
