Banyana Banyana woes over; thanks to Billionaire Patrice Motsepe
The South African Football Association (Safa) and the Banyana Banyana squad have reached an agreement over their deadlock.
Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa revealed that a sizeable donation from the Motsepe Foundation helped both parties in the negotiations to reach a settlement.
Motsepe has reportedly intervened to solve the ongoing matter over bonuses ahead of Banyana’s appearance at the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament later this month.
According to local publications, the Mamelodi Sundowns owner, Motsepe’s11th-hour intervention means Banyana will leave on time for the global showpiece that will be organised in New Zealand and Australia in two groups on Wednesday and Thursday.
Safa president Danny Jordaan said he understood the players’ standpoint and that they were within their rights to boycott Sunday’s game against Botswana and to seek a better deal.
