Stellies strike late to stun Chiefs in Soweto showdown

Stellenbosch FC flipped the script in spectacular fashion on Tuesday night, storming back to beat Kaizer Chiefs 2–1 in a Betway Premiership thriller that had everything — goals, drama and a dagger at the death.

It all looked routine for Amakhosi early on. Roared on by a packed house at FNB Stadium, Chiefs struck first in the 36th minute when Brazilian striker Flávio Da Silva coolly tucked away a Glody Lilepo cross. One-nil at the break. Business as usual? Not quite.

Stellenbosch came out swinging in the second half.

Just six minutes after the restart, Langelihle Phili crashed the party, finishing off a slick move orchestrated by Devin Titus to level matters at 1–1. Suddenly, the mood shifted. Chiefs wobbled. Stellies believed.

And then — bang.

With the clock ticking towards 90, Titus turned from provider to punisher. Played through by Ibraheem Jabaar in the 87th minute, he curled a beauty beyond the goalkeeper to complete the comeback and silence Soccer City.

From cruising to crunch time heartbreak — Chiefs’ title chase takes a dent, and the pressure ramps up ahead of their Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.

As for Stellenbosch? Ice in their veins, three points in the bag, and another statement win over the Glamour Boys.
