Suspect fatally wounded during shootout with police
On Thursday, 22 January 2026, members of the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) received information regarding a wanted suspect who was allegedly in possession of illegal firearms.
TOMS members, working together with Pretoria Public Order Policing (POP), followed up on the information and traced the suspect to the Laudium area. Upon arrival at the identified premises, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm and fired shots at the police.
Police responded, and during the ensuing shootout, the suspect was fatally wounded. He was declared dead at the scene.
A 9mm that was found in possession of the deceased was seized.
Further investigations are continuing.
