The Muddy Mess: Fletcherville and Phirintsu’s Roads of Despair*

The image of a white bus stuck in the mud, snapped on a phone and circulating who-knows-where, has become a stark metaphor for the woeful state of roads in Fletcherville and Phirintsu. It’s a shame, it’s a scandal, and it’s a travesty – but sadly, not a surprise.

For years, residents of these villages have endured potholes, rangers, and quagmires that pass for roads. The authorities, it seems, have long since abandoned any notion of maintenance, opting instead to fix these critical infrastructure arteries only when the local government elections loom. And even then, the “repairs” are a joke – a Band-Aid on a festering wound, done with all the finesse of a hack job.

The result? Roads that are worse now than they were before the “fixing”. Communities cut off, livelihoods disrupted, and lives put at risk. The bus stuck in the mud is just a symptom of a deeper rot – neglect, corruption, and a callous disregard for the people who call Fletcherville and Phirintsu home.

To the authorities, we say: enough is enough. Your sporadic, shoddy efforts are an insult. Fix the roads, and fix them properly. Do it now, not just come election time. The people demand better. The roads of Fletcherville and Phirintsu deserve better.

It’s time to hold those responsible to account. Anything less is a dereliction of duty.
