Veteran African National Congress (ANC) member Tony Yengeni has officially joined the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP). His move was announced on Thursday during a press conference addressed by MKP President Jacob Zuma.
Introducing Yengeni, Zuma praised his long-standing contribution to the liberation struggle and the ANC, stating that his experience and leadership would greatly strengthen the MK Party. Zuma confirmed that Yengeni will serve as the party’s Second Deputy President, assisting him in the presidency.
Yengeni will work alongside First Deputy President and former Judge John Hlophe, forming part of the party’s top leadership structure as it prepares for upcoming political challenges.
Yengeni’s defection marks another significant shift in South Africa’s political landscape, as more prominent figures from the ANC continue to align themselves with the MK Party.
