Traffic volumes have surged on major routes into Gauteng, with more than 1,000 vehicles per hour recorded as holidaymakers return from the festive break.
The busiest routes include the N1 from Polokwane to Pretoria, N4 from Rustenburg, N12 from Emalahleni, and the N3 from Durban, along with the R573 Moloto Road.
Authorities have urged motorists to drive safely, avoid speeding, rest regularly, and refrain from drinking and driving.
Despite increased volumes, traffic is flowing smoothly in most areas, although mist and light rain have been reported along some routes.
