The members of South African Police Service in Musina have arrested two male suspects along the N1 North freeway for possession of explosives in the early hours of Tuesday, 13 January 2026.
According to Limpopo provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the police were conducting routine stop-and-search operations along the N1 public road when they noticed a red Polo Vivo travelling at high speed.
“Police turned on blue lights and followed the motor vehicle that stopped on the road next to Petros truck depot,” Mashaba said.
The police asked the two male occupants’ permission to search the motor vehicle, and it was granted.
Mshaba said during the search, the police found a large black bag inside the boot and discovered that it contained explosives comprising 119 blasting cartridges and 24 detonating cord fuses.
“The duo was asked about the origin of the explosives but failed to provide a satisfactory response and were placed under arrest on the spot for possession of explosives,” he said.
The two male suspects aged 21 and 24 will appear before the Musina Magistrate court on Wednesday,14 January 2026 facing a charge of possession of explosives.
