The Mthatha Central Crime Prevention members and OR Tambo Stocktheft Prevention Task Team arrested two male suspects aged 27 and 39 years on Friday, 23/01 in two separate incidents, one for unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition whilst the other for possession of drugs.
According to police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyholo, police received information about a 27-year-old male suspect alleged to be having an unlicensed firearm,
“Stocktheft Prevention Task Team pounced at the suspect’s homestead in Lwandlana locality, Ngcengane A/A at about 05:30 and recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol (intact serial number) having one live round and on firearm circulation, the firearm was never reported as lost or stolen. The 27-year-old male suspect was arrested on the spot as he had no licence to possess such a firearm,” he said.
In another incident, the Mthatha Central Crime Prevention members arrested a 39-year-old male foor possession of drugs.
The members found Tik drug inside the car of the suspect and an undisclosed money believed to be gained from sales.
The pair is set to appear before the Mthatha Magistrates Court on Monday, 26/01. They are facing charges unlawful possession of an unlicenced firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana commended all members involved for their unwavering commitment and dedication in fighting crime in the district.
