Early this morning, just after 05:30, ALS Paramedics responded to reports of an alleged Cash-in-Transit robbery on the N2 South Bound near the NPC Cement Factory, south of Durban.
Initial reports indicated that multiple security officials had been shot. Paramedics arriving on the scene encountered chaos, and two guards were found with gunshot injuries.
One of the guards sustained critical injuries, prompting the activation of the Netcare911 Helicopter to rapidly transport him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. The second guard, who sustained serious injuries, was stabilised on-site by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a hospital for further care.
The N2 was closed from the M7 Edwin Swales offramp to allow authorities to conduct investigations. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area until further notice.
The circumstances leading to the robbery remain unclear. South African Police Service (SAPS) officers were on the scene and are investigating the incident.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the robbery to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
