TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR FRIDAY’S MATATIELE MURDER
Eastern Cape Police Officers in Matatiele have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of two men that happened in an area known as Harry Gwala Park on Friday night. Police Provincial Spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana said the two men were arrested when they were about to leave Kokstad driving a Quantum on Saturday evening.
Kinana said an off duty K9 official received an information from reliable sources that suspects accused for two (2) counts of murder were staying at a certain B&B situated at Matatiele and were in a process of leaving the area driving in Toyota Quantum. The information was conveyed to an on Duty K-9 unit Members who assembled with Maluti K9 Unit, Pholile Vispol and Kokstad K9 Unit and reacted on the supplied information. They further received an information that suspects just left in the direction of R56 road towards Kokstad and gave chase on the Toyota Quantum until it was stopped at Kokstad.
“Two suspects fitting the description earlier provided were searched and two 9mm firearms with 21 live rounds were recovered.
Both suspects have been detained at Matatiele and charged for two murder cases that were opened at Matatiele and an additional charge of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Both firearms will be taken for a ballistic test to ascertain its earlier use in commission of crime. The two men briefly appeared in Matatiele court on Monday and the case was transferred to Kokstad.
Communities at Harry Gwala Park are still reeling with shock after the two men were shot with a hail of bullets by unknown men leaving them dead on the spot last Friday night. Reports are saying that the two men were ambushed while they were about to get out of the cab that transported them town to home in Harry Gwala Park. It is said that one of the deceased known as Ngubekhaya Ndzungu had eleven bullet holes in the body and head.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga welcomed the recovery and arrest. “This arrest strengthen our resolve to make Eastern Cape crime and gun free”, she added.
