A crime intelligence officer known as Witness G is set to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria under strict security measures designed to protect his identity.
Commission chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga has ruled that the witness will appear remotely and off-camera, with only his voice made available to the public. The proceedings will largely be held in camera, with audio broadcast to ensure transparency while safeguarding sensitive information.
This comes after the witness’s lawyer raised concerns that his client’s identity could endanger those around him.
According to the ruling, parts of Witness G’s testimony will be heard in camera whenever sensitive details arise.
The commission says the approach aims to balance public accountability with the need to protect individuals involved in high-risk intelligence operations.
