WSU student describes ‘Warzone’ atmosphere at University Commission
A Walter Sisulu University (WSU) medical student has described the tense standoff between students and security guards as resembling a “warzone.”
Testifying before the Jafta Commission in Mthatha this week, Amanda Dlamini recounted the violence that unfolded during protests on campus.
The commission, chaired by retired Constitutional Court judge Chris Jafta, is investigating two separate shooting incidents at WSU earlier this year — one on March 12 that left student Sesethu Ndamase critically injured, and another on April 15 that claimed the life of student Sisonke Mbolekwa.
The inquiry, currently sitting at Mthatha Garden Court, has already heard emotional testimony from students and families, with more witnesses expected, including university staff and security personnel.
