Yolanda Potwana, a 21-year-old from Ramohlakoana, was overjoyed after becoming the first ordinary person to shake hands with the newly elected Mayor Cllr Patrick Stuurman. The historic moment occurred right after the Mayor delivered his reply speech in the council Chambers, when Yolanda, full of excitement, requested the handshake.
In an interview with The Informer, Yolanda shared her thrill, saying, “I am so happy, and I can’t believe it’s me! This is the first time a public figure has shaken my hand”. The young woman, who recently graduated from Maluti High, also expressed her passion for music, revealing that she aspires to follow in the footsteps of the renowned South African artist, Nathi Mankayi.
Yolanda dreams of pursuing a career in singing and is deeply inspired by Mankayi’s soulful music. “His music speaks to me, and I want to create songs that touch people’s hearts in the same way,” she said.
Her encounter with the Mayor has been a memorable milestone, further fueling her aspirations and determination to make a mark in the music industry.
