Alfred Nzo District Municipality engages AGSA to maintain clean audit and strengthen service delivery
On the 18th of February 2025, the Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) held an important engagement with the Office of the Auditor-General South Africa (AGSA) in EmaXesibeni. The meeting followed the tabling and adoption of the municipality’s impressive clean audit outcome for the 2023/24 financial year.
The session’s focus was to promote a culture of performance, transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity while ensuring quality services to the people of Alfred Nzo. Central to the discussions were key areas such as financial management, service delivery, compliance, ethics, fraud prevention, and responsiveness.
As the 2024/25 audit season approaches in under three months, this engagement aimed to share lessons learned from the previous audit cycle, pinpoint areas for improvement, and outline strategies for retaining the municipality’s clean audit status in the future. AGSA emphasized the importance of paying suppliers within 30 days, with strong support from officials, the Accounting Officer, and the Council in the process.
The Auditor General also noted that no material irregularities had been identified in the 2023/24 audit cycle, commending the municipality for its good financial management. The AGSA further highlighted its goal of shifting public sector culture towards excellence, with the target set for 2030.
Ms. Siphokazi Makubalo, Audit Manager from AGSA, reinforced that a clean audit opinion should reflect not only sound financial management but also tangible improvements in service delivery to the community. A call was made for the municipality to enhance monitoring and oversight mechanisms to ensure reported performance aligns with actual service delivery.
The session was attended by ANDM Senior Management, representatives from the Alfred Nzo Development Agency (ANDA), and officials from AGSA, marking a step forward in ensuring that the municipality continues to uphold its standards of excellence and serve its community effectively.
